After earning his bachelor’s degree from the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, David Dewar successfully completed several real estate projects as an independent consultant. He then accepted a position in which he was responsible for the complete renovation of the nearly 1,000 guest rooms at Toronto’s Harbor Castle Westin Hotel, as well as its convention space, totaling about a million square feet. David Dewar today is managing partner of Blue Pear Ventures, the boutique venture capital firm he founded in 2011.
Headquartered in the Phoenix suburb of Tempe, Arizona, Blue Pear Ventures makes investments of up to $2 million in technology and software companies, primarily those in Arizona. The companies it invests in are in their early stages of growth, are developing new ideas, generally have strong teams, and a burning desire to grow. The firm provides the companies it invests in with hands-on support, both in an advisory capacity and through direct executive participation.
One of Blue Pear’s underlying motivations is to contribute to the developing innovation economy of the Phoenix area by creating a nurturing environment for growing technological firms. Blue Pear fills an important niche, working alongside angel groups, entrepreneurs, and the larger institutional venture capital firms.
